The highly awaited 2018 FIFA World Cup is finally here. It is the most widely viewed sporting event in the world, it’s very competitive and fun.

The event takes place every four years and in 2014, Germany won. The event will start on June 14 and end July 15. The 2018 World Cup is a very difficult competition among 32  qualified countries to win the cup for their country.

All countries are split into eight groups. In Group A: Russia, Uruguay, Egypt, Saudi Arabia. In Group B: Portugal, Spain, Iran, Morocco. In Group C: France, Peru, Denmark, Australia. In Group D: Argentina, Croatia, Iceland, Nigeria. In Group E: Brazil, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Serbia. In Group F: Germany, Mexico, Sweden, South Korea. In Group G: Belgium, England, Tunisia, Panama. In Group H: Poland, Colombia, Senegal, Japan.

This event brings joy to people and unites them together. A total of 64 matches will be played in 12 stadiums located in 11 cities. Every match counts and will be officiated by 3 referees. FIFA also allowed VAR’s, which are video assistant referees. This will be very beneficial since sometimes the referees don’t see everything that happens on the field, which can be game-changing.

The schedules of  the “three match days” are already chosen, by “three day matches” I mean each team in a group will play the three other teams in their group. Two teams of each group are eliminated which leave sixteen teams in the “round of 16”. Then, 8 teams that lose their match here are eliminated. “Quarterfinals” follow which include eight teams who play to leave only four for the “semi-final”. After the semi-final, two teams go to the next round which is the “final”.

“It’s the best tournament and the hardest one because all of the players are representing their country.”,said senior, Ian De Souza who attended last  2014 World Cup in Brazil. This is the hardest soccer tournament, because all of the best payers are participating. Although, there are many great players there are certain ones that make a difference for their team. Each team will have a squad of 30 top players. Such players include Neymar(Brazil), Messi(Argentina), Kroos(Germany) and Salah(Egypt).

You can watch the cup with cable and for free on “Telemundo”, “Univision”(Spanish coverage), Fox, ABC and NBC. This is an event that any sports lover will enjoy.
