Link Crew is a high school transition program that welcomes freshmen and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their high school experience. This program helps freshmen struggle less throughout their first year of high in every aspect such as academics and friendships.

Many students fail high school or are not motivated to go because they had a bad freshman year. More and more studies show that if students have a positive experience their first year in high school, their chance for success in high school and life increases dramatically.

This program needs loyal and charismatic students to help on the challenging task of making these kids feel welcome.  Junior Delaney Sinclair said “I am part of Link Crew because I like to help the freshmen feel welcomed in our school and also to see the new faces that are coming to Esperanza.”

Link crew leaders get trained for 3 days during the summer and then continue into Freshmen orientation. They lead the freshmen through a series of activities to welcome them and let them learn about the campus. They also hold activities once a month on the Freshmen focus campus to keep freshmen connected. This year, there are 42 current students participating in the Link Crew program.

ASB director, Meghann Lukach said “The main goal of link crew is to welcome Freshmen and make them feel comfortable on Esperanza’s campus.” This program was created to help freshmen make good choices in high school and to lead and help them with this new part of their lives. This is something that schools should look into for the future because it really makes a difference in these kids lives.
