Anti-Valentine’s Day Movies

An entire holiday dedicated to celebrating love sounds like a good idea if you’re in a relationship, however if you are single it may bring up feelings of bitterness and resentment. There is no denying that romantic comedies and happily ever after fairy tales can sometimes turn into brutally honest love stories that end in despair and heartache. Some examples of anti-Valentine’s day movies include The Break-Up, Bad Timing, Closer, Blue Valentine, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Sleepwalk with Me, and Think Like a Man.

In the movie the Break Up, the burgeoning relationship between co-stars Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston  is nothing less than a goofy romp in which both characters pull wacky pranks on each other in order to seize control of their impressive Chicago condo according to pastemagazine.com. The movie Bad Timing does not begin promisingly when Theresa Russell’s character is in hospital after suffering a fatal overdose. Her “lover” Art Garfunkel’ character contributes to the story of obsession and domination in this anti-Valentine’s day movie. The movie Closer undoubtedly captures modern-day relationships and stars some of the most hateful and insensitive characters according to pastemagazine.com.

Blue Valentine, which co-stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams, tells a tale of young love that is shown sharply against the future versions of Gosling and William’s characters who are aged, tired and weary beings. In the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which stars Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet, is about a couple that undergoes a procedure to have each other erased from their memories, according to imdb.com. In the anti Valentine movie Sleepwalk with Me, a comedian struggles with the stress of a stalled career,  a severe sleepwalking problem and a stale relationship, according to pastemagazine.com. Lastly, in the movie Think Like a Man that stars Chris Brown, Gabrielle Union and Kevin Hart, comprises of four friends that turn on their women when they realize that they have been using Steve Harvey’s relationship advice against them, according to flavorwire.com.
