In our high school years many students that compete in Esperanza sports are also in club sports outside of school. For some, this is very difficult to maintain and for others it is quite simple. Sam Zadah, a club and high school softball player, says “Sports is all I really focus on. It’s what I put all my effort towards so it’s easy for me”. Jordyn Adair, also a club and high school softball player, says “I have a job, AP classes, and other things I wanna do besides just playing softball. It is hard to keep everything balanced”. It is said by Mercurynews that kids are trying to get as many scholarships as possible and for that reason they are pushing themselves to the limit with high school and club sports simultaneously.

There are many pros of doing both. Things such as becoming better skilled and more educated in their sport because more time is spent practicing. In addition, they tend to be more time efficient and well rounded by getting necessities completed in all aspects of life by overcoming  procrastination. Doing these dual activities enable athletes to meet even more people than if they were just to be involved in one.   Not only does multiple sports help to meet great people it also allows college scouts to look for eager to play athletes who are always willing to put in maximum effort.

Disadvantages of being involved in both high school and club sports, is that it would take up all of the athletes freetime. Having a lack of free time will only cause stress because athletes will constantly feel fatigue or worn out from going from practice to practice. This may also lead to having a lack of energy to work or even try as hard in school. Grades may slip because of incomplete assignments due to never having time outside of school to work on them. Lastly, being in a club sports tends to be very costly and very few people can afford to play both.

Playing both club and high school sports have many pros and cons, but it is ultimately up to the athlete depending upon how much time and effort they are willing to give and if the pros outweigh the cons.
