Dance company gathers backstage at the Anaheim Dance Festival before their powerful performance about Alzheimer’s Disease.

Hard work truly does pay off. After a lot of determination and long rehearsals, Esperanza Dance Company’s piece “Remember Me When I Forget You” was recognized in the OC Register on Nov. 11 by journalist, Kaitlyn Wright.

This incredible piece is about the very emotional, Alzheimer’s disease. It was challenging to figure out what the number should look like because of the topic. Sue Gehringer, the dance teacher stated, “How do we convey in movement something that is so complicated?” As there are many different situations caused by the disease that they could portray, the Dance Company decided they wanted to depict the relationships between the doctors, family, and victims.

The dance was already physically challenging, but Gehringer wanted something more to make this performance even better. Gehringer wanted the dance company to be challenged both mentally and physically. So for the mental portion she chose a sensitive subject and had all of the dancers research the disease. She hoped the research would build more emotion inside the dancers when they perform in future recitals.

Although they have it mastered, they are still nit-picking it to be absolutely perfect for future performances. The dance company plans on featuring “Remember Me When I Forget You” in future performances, which all aztecs are invited to attend.
