The Oscars are coming up soon and here are the movie’s background info and scope of what will take place at the ceremony. A look into what is to come and what has happened in this past year.

“The 96th annual Academy Award nominations raised the definitive movie question of the season: Is this the year of “Barbie” or “Oppenheimer?” We still don’t quite know since they each got multiple nominations (“Barbie” with eight and “Oppenheimer” with 13). In any case, it will be another excuse for us to use the term Barbenheimer.”

With the Oscars incoming in a month, seeing the nominations the big one people saw coming was the cultural phenomenon of Barbenheimer. Coming out on the same day was a big deal for the movies and box offices and encouraged people to see both, with audiences and critics enjoying both leading to critical acclaim for Oppenheimer earning 13 nominations and Barbie with 8 nominations for Oscars

“The Oscars come at a challenging time for the movie business, which has struggled to adjust to changes in the way audiences view films. Wall Street, which once gave digital disruptors like Netflix sky-high valuations, has soured on the economics of streaming, believing they are not profitable enough. That’s been devastating for media companies like Warner Bros. Discovery, Disney and Paramount Global, which have spent lavishly to build their own streaming services. At the same time, actors and writers, arguing that the streaming boom has robbed them of the royalties they once earned when their movies were rebroadcast on cable or other platforms, went on months-long strikes. The labor unrest, which wrapped up in November, led to sustained production shutdowns that could mean that next year’s Oscars will have a lot fewer contenders vying for top honors.”

Through with all these movies coming out and getting ready for the Oscars, we need to look back on what took place in the majority of the year with the SAG-AFTRA strike were actors and writers went on a half year long strike for better pay and were against the use of AI generated stories. Though movies were coming out, many actors and movie workers weren’t appearing at premier shows and promoting for them and marched and went on strike for their roles. Eventually it was led up and many productions for movies that got shut down. But now they are up and running again with award shows around the corner. Awards shows are now in full season and we shall see who comes takes home the most awards and acclaimed the most.

“The Directors Guild of America Awards are the first stop on the post-nom circuit (even before the Oscars luncheon). That could wrap up the directing (and best picture) race for Christopher Nolan and his historical drama “Oppenheimer.” The billion-dollar question is, will Nolan pull off a hat trick and take home best picture, directing, and screenplay.”

Will Oppenheimer take home the most awards as predicted or will others come in like Barbie for the steal. Some other opportunities for other movies are having chances but the big ones are Barbie and Oppenheimer where Oppenheimer is predicted to be the main winner. It will be shown in due time with the Oscars set to premier for movies of 2023 on March 10, 2024. Link is available for all nominations here.
