Now, if you were curious like me and clicked this article, you probably wonder why Valentine’s Day became what it is today. And so that’s why I will be taking a look at Valentine’s Day history and sharing it with you. First off, we should talk about how Valentine’s Day got its name. It supposedly got its name from a Catholic priest named Saint Valentine, who lived in the 3rd century in Rome. Okay, well, now that we know what Valentine’s Day was named after, let’s figure out how it even began and how it became worldwide. But before I share, I must tell you that there are many different stories about how Valentine’s Day became a thing, so I’ll only be talking about this one. If you’re curious about the rest, you can look it up yourself. So let’s not get sidetracked, but supposedly, there was an emperor named Claudius II who thought that men without loved ones would be better suited to fighting. So Emperor Claudius II made a law that forbade young men from marrying, which didn’t seem right to Saint Valentine, so he married couples in secret. But later, he gets caught and executed for marrying young couples. Which is why Valentine’s Day was made, to represent how even if it cost his life, he still chose to marry couples.
