Have you ever thought about how some animals might be going extinct? If you’re curious about how many are going extinct, then I think you may want to read this article.
First off, right now there are more than 48,600 of species that are threatened with extinction; most of these species are Cycads, Sharks, Sting Rays, Reef Coral and Amphibians; these 5 species are at most close to extinction. Especially the cycads. In fact there is one type of cycads species that is located in south africa that are called drakensberg cycads and it is close to extinction. In fact there are an estimated amount of 10,000 fully mature drakensberg cycads left which is a low amount. The Drakensberg cycads extinction is due to being collected and being used for ornamental purposes; this prevents them from being able to repopulate which is causing their numbers to dwindle. But not to worry because right now the drakensberg are being protected from illegal poaching and being secured.
But due to Drakensberg being an ancient type of plant that lived long before dinosaurs, they grow extremely slowly and it would be extremely hard for them to repopulate quickly. But the cycads are not the only endangered ones because bull sharks are also endangered. Bull sharks live in warm, shallow coastal waters of tropical oceans they usually eat any fish native to where they live but they also do eat rays and other sharks. They also eat trash that’s dumped into the water from people which is causing some bull sharks to die but this isn’t the only thing that kills them but in reality they get hunted for their fins and meat and also get hunted by beach protection programs that are located in south africa, they hunt bull sharks due to bull sharks being a bit more aggressive than any other shark this is mostly due to them having a higher chemical in their body called testosterone. Even though they are more aggressive than any other shark. But the most common reason for the bull sharks population to be dying is from pollution and being hunted. Sadly their numbers are unknown and right now aren’t low enough to start getting protected.
