The War on Starbucks
Every November, Starbucks redesigns its cups for the holidays and this year it seems that the company is releasing two designs.
The green cup, that was released Nov. 1, was designed by artist Shogo Ota, and features a “mosaic of more than a hundred people drawn in one continuous stroke,” according to The Huffington Post. The non-traditional colored cups are making many Starbucks lovers angry because they claim that it is not festive enough for the holiday season.
Starbucks confides that the rest of the company’s holiday plans “are still under wraps,” which numerous employees have shared images of boxes containing the company’s actual seasonal cups. These cups have been released Nov. 10 and are the traditional red cups everyone was hoping for.
However, “the green cup and the design represent the connections Starbucks has as a community with its partners (employees) and customers,” said Howard Schultz, chairman and CEO said in the release in the article from Eater. Starbucks wanted to envision a symbol of unity as a reminder of everyone’s shared values and the desire to be good to one another.
