Hearts for MDA
Muscular dystrophy is a group of genetic diseases that cause progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass. Senior Britney Sharp founded a club called “Hearts of MDA” in which fundraisers are put on to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), an association that raises funds so that muscular dystrophy patients and their families can afford physical therapy sessions, wheelchairs, and other resources.
At the club’s first fundraiser, over $400 was raised. All proceeds raised go to the MDA. The club benefits many children and teens that don’t have the opportunities most of their peers do.
Club President Britney Sharp said that last summer a camper told her that she had “made this the best week of his life.” This club offers a rewarding experience in which students are given the opportunity to save lives and have fun simultaneously.
