I think professional athletes are not overpaid because of the deferrals the contract can come with. That is a team’s choice. The Dodgers did this so that they could add more star players, they eventually signed another star Japanese pitcher named Yoshinobu Yamamoto to a 12-year deal worth 325 million dollars, and they then eventually added Teoscar Hernandez from the Seattle Mariners to a 1-year deal worth 23.5 Million dollars, the Dodgers also traded for star pitcher Tyler Glasnow from the Tampa Bay Rays to add to their pitching roster. In my opinion, professional athletes are not overpaid because of the contract deferrals the team can do to save the team money so they can sign more players to make their team even better and their odds of winning the World Series event better. There is also another matter to take into consideration, the cost of all the marketing off the field, the cost of parking, the cost of food, the ticket prices per game, and most of all, the health of the player. Ohtani not being able to pitch next year, made many people believe the contract would be worth less than what it was. I think at the time of his signing the contract, he would be worth more than people thought he’d be worth ($500 million) A reason for him being worth this much is the value he brings to the team and the celebrity that Ohtani is. This can also be financially devastating for a team that does not have the money. Like the Tampa Bay Rays, The Rays are a poorer version of the Dodgers, they haven’t spent money on star players, The only player they signed for a massive amount of money is Wander Franco, he is no longer on the team because of a rumor that he had been in an illegal relationship. Another example is Anthony Rendon, their contract has been a waste ever since, he has barely played due to injury and when he does he is not that great, In an interview he did with YouTube, he said “We gotta shorten the season, there’s way too many dang games”. I think he should not talk about the season being too long because he has missed a lot of games himself and his playing stats have been terrible. I think in my opinion Ohtani going to the Dodgers is great and terrible at the same time because it’s the rival of the team he used to be on the Angels and it’s a team that is known for having a rowdy and dirty fan base. A good thing about it is that Ohtani is on a winning team, he’s been saying for a long time now that he wants to win. It is the actual Los Angeles and the Dodgers have other star players, like Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman. So, in my opinion. Professional Athletes are not overpaid because of contract deferrals and Ohtani being baseball’s closest thing to a celebrity.
