Future Day was on Thursday during 3rd and 4 periods when seniors went to various areas around the campus: the practice gym, library, or classrooms. When they leave their session with the college representatives, the goal is to be guided closer to deciding where they want to go and their career goals.
Big thanks to those who helped organize this: Mrs. Paris, Ms. Selof, Mr. Aragon, Mrs. Botello, Mrs. Smith, Mr. Lay, Mrs. Lukach, and more. This year’s Future Day was significant for the kids who still needed an idea of what they wanted to do or what college they wanted to attend. Those who were committed also learned a lot. A student I asked said, “It helped me get a better idea of what other colleges are offering and helped me look at other options.” It was also surprising how many seniors attended this event this year.
According to Mr. Lay, we had over 300 seniors participate, with most able to submit at least one college application or even two. Every EHS staff member played a crucial role in creating an environment where the seniors could explore and prepare for their futures. Without those who helped with this event, it might not have gone as smoothly and created an environment where students were comfortable interacting and asking questions to the representatives. One of the representatives from EOPS also talked to us about specific services that they offer.
According to the paper they gave us, it includes Book money for each semester, transfer process guidance, tutoring service, and more. According to them, “EOPS is dedicated to providing over and above resources to support your goals as a college student”. For those whose parents struggle or need help with money, it’s pretty generous that some organization helps cover these types of expenses and help those who need help.
