Walking Dead made its return to AMC on Sunday, Oct. 23 for its Season 7 premiere. Fans have long awaited the beloved bloodbath of a show, not only for its likable (and unlikable) character complexities, but for the answer to the question that each Dead-head has been crying themselves to sleep to for about six months now: Who did Negan kill?

During the season 6 finale, viewers tuned in to watch core characters lined up subject to Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and his barbed-wire studded bat, Lucille. Of course, the show did not reveal who was beaten to death, and fans were left developing theories, analyzing character foreshadowing, and most definitely sobbing.

According to AMC, showrunner Scott M. Gimple said,”Things are getting grayer and grayer and grayer,” in reference to this upcoming season. With an overabundance of close-calls for our dearest characters last season, we’ll sadly take his word for it.

Season 7 for fans will be a tough one, mainly telling by Negan’s brief introduction leaving such a lasting impression. “This is a very nuanced character that has a lot of different shades to him. There’s a lot of honor to him, a rule system in place. … He’s a leader of a fairly sizable group, and so in order to do those things for as long as he’s done them, he’d have to be very accomplished as a human being,” said Writer Robert Kirkman as stated by AMC.

Because it so common for victims to fall by walkers, Negan’s murder acquires much more significance as a result. Taking this into account, fans should probably focus on what previous seasons have prepped them to believe: humans are the worst possible encounters throughout an apocalypse.
