Will a Vaccine Save the United States?

The vaccine will indirectly help people struggling with mental health issues, and give economically struggling Californians the opportunity they desperately need to get back on their feet.

On Friday, March 13, 2020, California entered a massive lockdown in response to concerns over Coronavirus. The belief at the time was that a vaccine for the virus could take as long as 12-16 months to make. Now, after over nine months since the lockdown on March 9th, the first vaccine for Covid-19 is being administered in the UK, with promising results.

On Dec. 14, the first vaccines were administered in the US. With an opportunity to return to normal, people in America are currently wondering if the vaccine will be useful, or if politicians will just keep acting like tyrants with no worry about logic or scientific evidence.

With little to no evidence on how the vaccines will affect the public, people can really only speculate it’s impact on the virus. Whether or not the vaccine actually works or not, it will help people in America, especially in Democrat-run states like California by giving their oppressive leaders one less reason to force people inside. This would lead to more people being allowed to work again, and countless people could have the opportunity to regain their footing after living in a semi lockdown purgatory for three-fourths of a year.

So whether or not the vaccine proves to be effective against Coronavirus, it’ll cure more pandemics than just Covid-19. These pandemics are more in the figurative sense. For example, from the very beginning of lockdown to the present, mental health in America has been on a rapid and startling decline. Demand for psychologists is at an all-time high, but Governor Gavin Newsom has turned a blind eye to this issue with seemingly no explanation why. With the vaccine coming into circulation, leaders like Newsom will no longer have an excuse to ignore citizens in California, and people will regain the freedom to contact a psychologist to help them with any emotional issues that had been triggered by Newsom’s cold and apathetic disposition towards the people of California or just from the all-around stress that comes with a global pandemic.

The second figurative pandemic that the Covid vaccine will help return to health is the economy. One would have to be living underneath a rock in order to not be aware of the massive amount of jobs lost due to stay-at-home restrictions. For instance, Disneyland has had to lay off upwards of 28,000 employees due to Governor Newsom’s absolute disregard for working-class Californians. If Disneyland is closed, that also means that the surrounding hotels in Anaheim are getting no business from tourism, and as a result, they are failing as well. The same principle with the mental health point applies here as well, as Governor Newsom will have no excuse to keep people inside, and subsequently, he’ll have to allow people to open up their businesses again.

It’s far too early to decide how the vaccine will help rid the United States of Coronavirus, however, it’ll be a great combatant against governments with far too much power over their citizens. The vaccine will indirectly help people struggling with mental health issues, and give economically struggling Californians the opportunity they desperately need to get back on their feet.
