Kanye West released his fourth collection of Yeezy apparel, drawing an abundance of mixed reviews from both fans, critics  and fellow fashion enthusiasts. Held on Roosevelt Island with views of Manhattan and the Queensborough Bridge on either side, the setting also featured sweltering heat under a September sky causing for much of a commotion on the models’ side.

Several models as a result of the heat were subject to exhaustion, fainting, and excessive perspiration while dressed in the iconic, yet infamous and plain attire of Yeezy himself. From broken heels to heat fatigue, spectators also witnessed a 90 minute late start time of the production.

The apparel  maintained a neutral color palette, ranging from shades of white, beige, and black, but also acquired a military-influenced street style. Models Chanel Iman, Teyana Taylor and Sophia Richie took part in the show to further the appeal to millennial audiences.  West’s spouse, Kim Kardashian-West, and her half sisters, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, were in attendance as well.

Aside from the actual showcase, West also received criticism from an array of sources due to his demand for “multi-racial women only.” While Twitter questioned his exclusive preferences, few critics  defended his confidence in maintaining a certain vision.

This quote was published by the International Business Times UK: “OK, so you know when Penelope puts together her car? And she’s like, ‘Made it myself,’ and everybody that has professional cars, they say, ‘Look at you with your little car and you’re going to do this,’ and then they break her car, right?” West said comparing him with Penelope from the Disney movie Wreck-It Ralph. “That’s basically the fashion world to me,” he added.

As West continues to stir both the fashion and music industries, and perhaps the world as a whole, fans still await his newest projects, most recently the release of his Yeezy Boost 350 v2 shoes. Nevertheless, the question still arises as to whether or not his visionary character surpasses absurdity.
