The women’s varsity volleyball CIF season came to a close at last Tuesday’s semi-finals against Santiago High School, with a score of 0-3.

Despite losing three sets to them, Esperanza won 7-1 games in league, defeating Valencia 3-2 and El-Toro 3-1. There overall rating is 30-7 this season, and are in first place in Crestview League, an accomplishment of the players that is a source of pride.

Senior Carlee Mack, a middle blocker for the team, said that CIF prelims went well in her regards, saying, “we played with confidence, even when we had to travel the team stayed focused and through with the victory.”

With 80 percent of the games being a success, the players were able to succeed due to the coaches training.

“[They] prepared us with lots of films of the the other teams and strategies to to get the win. We trained very hard and were in the gym everyday putting out maximum effort”.

Despite the defeat, the team is optimistic that they will go even further into CIF next year.

“We wish we could have won and gone farther in CIF. But now we are focused on state and will start preparing for our first game on this Wednesday.” Mack explained a team must get to or further than semifinals in CIF to qualify into state championships.

The Aztecs have won 30 out of the 37 games, with 83 out of 116 sets being won.

“Not only is is it an accomplishment for our team, but for the school as well. We are very proud of that record,” said Mack.
