Gary Meek

Gary Meek has recently been selected into the CIF hall of fame. As of October 18, 2023. Let’s take a look into his coaching history. Gary started coaching in 1970 at San Diego City College, when he moved to Orange County he started coaching football at Mater Dei high school for four years. In 1974 Gary began coaching at Esperanza and became the head coach in 1985, he was then the head coach for seventeen years. During that time his record was 144 wins, fifty loses, and five ties. Gary also won seven league championships, twenty seven in a row in the sunset leagues between the years 1990 to 1993, one CIF runner up, 3 CIF championships, coach of the year twice, and one athletic director of the year. Coach Meek has coached many successful players who have become great high school players and great professional football players. His favorite motto is “Once an Aztec always an Aztec.”
