Girls Polo Getting Ready for Season

As men’s water polo comes to an end, women’s polo is getting ready to start their winter season. The girls have been practicing every day in the weight room, swimming , and strengthening their polo technique.  There will be 7 seniors on the team this year and they are ready to make it their best. The team starts their morning with a 5:45 AM lifting session and swimming to build their strength and endurance. After a day filled with academics, practice resumes at 2:00 PM so they can continue working on their swim and run drills for the game. Junior Emma Vanes explained, “We have a great defense this year, and we’re getting better with our offense every practice.” The girls are at practice every day ready to work and coach Ashley Haney says, “The team is getting along great, everyone is on the same page this season, and that’s what’s most important.” After last year’s season got cut short, the sophomores are excited to have their first full season and the freshmen are “having a great time getting to know the team and the sport” says Hailey Whittiker, a freshman and first year polo player. Senior Elise Whitworth had a short season last year, but is ready to “get better at sprinting and swimming overall.” The large senior team is looking forward to their last season and some of the girls are considering playing in college as well. The girls will be playing their first game on December 7th against Yorba Linda High School, and until then they’ll be working hard every day to make improvements for the season.
