Esperanza’s academic Decathlon team had a very competitive season and was very successful, with a total of fifty individual medals awarded to our students we earned medals in each of ten events in the academic decathlon. Esperanza came out 7th place overall in Orange County out of 34 schools competing, making Aztecs proud.
Our varsity team, consisting of mainly 11th and 12th graders, was second place overall in division two. The twenty-two students who competed earned a total of thirty-six individual subject medals. Note-worthy students are Paola Silva, who was the 7th overall individual in Orange County for the varsity GPA category, while Mattew Hoang and David Yu earned special pins for scoring over 7,000 points in the competition out of a possible 10,000 points.
Our Jv team consisted of twelve freshmen and sophomores. They also did very well, earning 14 individual subject medals. A note-worthy JV student is Olivia Pachon, who earned a perfect score (1000 points) in the interview event.

- Matthew Hoang: 5 medals (1st in literature, 2nd in music + art, 4th in math in 5th in social science)
- Nick Wallstorm: 5 medals (1st in art + science, 2nd in essay and 4th in literature + maths )
- David Yu: 3 medals (2nd in art, 3rd in science and 5th in social science )
- Samantha Yokote: 2 medals (3rd in art and 5th in literature)
- Annette Byun: 2 medals (3rd in music and 5th in interview)
- Eric Alfaro: 2 medals (2nd in speech and 3rd in music)
- Gissely Rodriguez: 2 medals (3rd in essay and 4th in music)
- Parker Goo: 2 medals (4th in interview and 5th in social science)
- Sophia Diaz: 2 medals (1st in speech and 4th in music)
- Shivali Sharma: 1 medal ( 2nd in interview )
- Riki Furuichi: 1 medal (5th in speech)
