Summer DIYs
From watermelon welcome mats to glow stick lanterns, this list of DIYs has ideas to get you inspired this summer. All of these examples are simple enough to do at home and provide a healthy dose of fun during this summer season. They don’t require a lot of effort and are easy to put together. If you enjoy being a little crafty, these are the next projects for you.
Watermelon Welcome Mat
This simple, yet adorable undertaking requires the following: a plain welcome mat, a large, all-purpose sponge, sharp scissors, a detail paint brush, paint containers, such as plastic plates and pink, green and black paint. Once these items are acquired, cut the sponge into a watermelon shape and create two stamps. One for the inside of the watermelon and one for the rind. Dip the inside into pink paint and the rind into the green paint and than stamp both onto the mat creating a watermelon image. After both have been stamped, then go in with the paintbrush and add small black seeds to each of the slices created.
Tabletop S’mores
For this outside activity you will need a terracotta pot, tin foil and charcoal. All you have to do is line the pot with tin foil and place the charcoal inside. Then when you’re ready to enjoy the beautiful flame, all you have to do is light it. Roasting marshmallows has never been so easy.
Seashell Picture Frame
This idea is a great way to keep you busy and spice up your old photos. Simply get a wooden frame, glue and some seashells. You can even use ones you’ve collected from the beach. Glue the shells in whatever pattern or design you’d like and enjoy the tranquil vibe.
Homemade Sunscreen
Sunscreen can be a very important asset during the summer especially with the hot sun beating down on you. Making sure that what you’re putting on your skin doesn’t have chemicals is important. This recipe for sunscreen is easy and smells delicious. All you need to do is combine and melt down ½ a cup of shea butter and ¼ a cup of coconut oil. Then, mix in ¼ a cup of beeswax and two tablespoons of zinc powder very well. If you store it in a sealable jar it can last up to a month.
Glow Stick Lanterns
This is probably the easiest of the DIYs. All you have to do is buy or find as many mason jars as wanted and the glow stick colors of your choice. Then, cut the glow sticks open and shake them into the jars. Screw the tops on and enjoy the glow for up to a week.
These are just a few simple ideas that can get you started on your summer fun activities. Don’t be afraid to try something new and branch out into the world of do-it-yourselfs. It is very rewarding and can help to fill your time in a very productive and simplistic way. These tasks provide enjoyment and can even be done with a group of friends. So, go get out there and be crafty!
