The newest series to hit Disney+ this year is the highly anticipated series based around everyone’s favorite Jedi, Obi Wan Kenobi.

Taking place ten years after the fall of the Jedi and the notorious showdown between Kenobi and Darth Vader, this series takes off with the Jedi scattered and the Empire flourishing. Obi Wan Kenobi has gone into hiding on the desert planet Tatooine, watching over a young Luke Skywalker, and now under the alias Ben. He is a shell of his former heroic self, dealing with the guilt and disappointment of what happened to Anakin Skywalker over ten years ago. Rather than go looking for other Jedi or helping out locals, he has decided to live a tranquil life in exile. Though many argue that he has acted cowardly, some say he simply has to make sure Luke is taken care of.

When the show takes place, both Luke and Leia have been separated. Luke is with Owen and Beru Lars, his aunt and uncle, and Leia with her adoptive parents, Senator Bail Organa and his wife Breha Organa. For the time being, unless something were to call Obi Wan to the defense, he is obligated to watch over Luke in Tatooine, looking to avoid repeating his past mistakes.

Reprising their original roles are fan favorites, Hayden Christiansen (Anakin/Vader) and Ewan McGregor (Obi Wan). Also reprising their roles are Joel Edgerton (Owen) and Bonnie Piesse (Beru). Newcomers include Sung Kang (Fast and the Furious franchise) as the Fifth Brother and Moses Ingram as Reva Sevander (Fifth Sister), two imperial inquisitors. Also slated to make his debut sometime in the show is rapper O’Shea Jackson Jr. His character was unknown at the time.

Three episodes into the show, and IMDB has rated the show a solid 7.9/10. It has also received an 87% on both Rotten Tomatoes and among Google users. So, whether you are a hard core Star Wars fan nostalgic of the prequels or original trilogy or a “youngling” in the Star Wars world, this show is sure to make you pass your time pleasurably. It is filled with humor and emotion, and is a perfect balance of nostalgia and new storytelling. It is sure to be a fun time for the whole family! I’ve enjoyed it so far, and I’m just a casual fan. Will you be checking in on Obi Wan this summer? In the words of a young Anakin Skywalker, “this is where the fun begins”.
