Sophia Fontes is a freshman at Esperanza High school and is in color guard along with being a violinist in the Esperanza Orchestra. So far she enjoys “how inclusive the upperclassmen can be.” She finds it “quite confusing” to manage being in both orchestra and color guard but is finding it much easier to navigate as the school year progresses. Some of her challenges this year include almost being late for a performance and missing an orchestra class because she was in color guard instead. Since covid, she feels that in some areas life has gone back to normal, “for instance I’m still doing homework and attending school and getting up early to travel.” However, in other areas things are not quite the same, and “people have changed and that is okay.” Congratulations Sophia on being freshman student of the week!
