On May 8, 2023, it was the first playoff game for Aztec Softball. The Aztecs had a tough game losing 5-1 to Poly (Riverside, CA). During the bottom of the first inning, Taylor Shumaker tied the game up 1-1. The Aztecs had 3 hits total in the game from Juliette Beltran, Samantha Korte, and Taylor Shumaker. Makenna Milliman went out in the first inning due to a terrible injury leading her to tear her ACL. Mia Sanchez filled in for Makenna in the outfield, then went to pitch in the 4th inning. Although the Aztecs lost they had an amazing season ending off 19-7 and winning the league 7-2. Taylor stated that the game had an impact on them because they knew if they were to lose it would be their last game with the seniors. Although their season is over the seniors can leave knowing they went far and put up an amazing fight. The Aztecs are planning on coming back bigger and better next year and to compete for the CIF title.
