Men’s golf season is coming to an end after they played competitively against other rival schools all season. They will participate in the League Finals Tournament on May 2nd and 3rd. This game qualifies schools that  will play in the CIF.

Currently, the varsity team is 4 and 11 overall; 2 and 3 in the North Hills League. They will end the season tied 2nd with El Dorado. Sadly, team Aztecs are not able to go there as a team. However, according to Coach Claborn, Blake Copeland, senior has a high chance of going to the CIF Individuals.

“Blake Copeland has lead the team with 6 medalists honors so far, but other individuals have stepped up with solid performances such as Caleb Tront, Esteban Padilla, and Carson Beahr, who have all shot in the 30’s, all personal bests this season,” commented Claborn as he held high expectations to his team.

He also stated about their goal for the next season, “Our goal for next season is to beat YLHS and win league. The incremental improvement is the only way to ensure success in the long-term.  That’s why tournament play in the off-season is so critical.  It gives players a realistic view of where they are with their golf games.  Scores don’t lie, and our scores need to be better if we want to compete with YL next year.”

Although the team consisted with a total of 12 golfers, the team did their best in being competitive in the league. Claborn wants the golfers who are prior to the program, to stick with the program and contribute until next season as well. Claborn lastly said, “Esperanza students should know that there are spots available on the golf team. If they have an interest in the spot, they should contact me for next year’s season,”.

The Aztec golfers will push their way to the rest of their season, and the team would be more powerful as they will continue to recruit new members for next year.
