Baseball season is slowly creeping up on us so with that comes spring training, and one team that comes into it desperately wanting a change of results are the Angels. After replacing Coach Ron Washington with Kurt Suzuki at the end of last season, fans were expecting a usual attempt at a rebuild with an acceptable number of transfers, but nothing crazy. Now spring training is here and it’s safe to say that we’re having our doubts about Suzuki, but you have to keep in mind the season hasn’t even started yet so we should give him a chance.
Spring Training Results So Far:
Dodgers 15-2 Angels
Angels 10-9 Diamondbacks
Rangers 6-0 Angels
Angels 5-7 Rockies
Giants 4-1 Angels
Angels 3-7 Padres
Cubs 4-5 Angels
Angels 4-3 Reds
3-5 in those first 8 games so it’s not terrible, but boy does that Dodgers scoreline stick out to me.
Off-field chatter has included opinions on ownership direction and how the front office is structuring leadership, but Suzuki has already made clear that several pitchers like Reid Detmers, Yusei Kikuchi, and Jose Soriano are in solid contention for rotation roles. Despite the early noise, there’s reason for optimism: spring training is about experimenting and evaluating, and seeing young players step up and veterans adapt to new roles suggests the Angels could be building some momentum as they head into the regular season with a fresh voice in the dugout.
