A Love Story: The Owens
February 13, 2017
Gina Lipscomb, senior, setting up to spike the ball down hard.

At the start of league, women’s volleyball played matches versus Villa Park, Canyon, and El Modena High School, all which they won 3-0. The Aztecs then faced rivals Yorba Linda High School, again which they won 3-0 alongside a notable student section. They then went on to play Brea Olinda and defeated them 3-0.

“I think our success comes from the fact that we have more experience with our returners,” said Head Coach Isaac Owens. Key members include Seniors and team captains Gina Lipscomb and Allana Cecilio, and Juniors Avery Stowell, Jessica Streuer, and Brooke Beresford, all with at least two years of experience on the varsity level.

The team has lost to El Dorado, 0-3, and Foothill, 2-3, so far, but are working to polish their craft in time for CIF. Lipscomb said, “We’ve just been going into practice really hard and getting better so that we can win.”

With various members potentially D1 bound, the women’s volleyball program maintains its solid status within the high school athletics realm.
